A remark by India’s Chief Justice Surya Kant has given birth to Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The movement was started by Abhijeet Dipke.
It was inspired by Kant’s comments comparing unemployed youngsters to cockroaches during an open court hearing.
In his remarks, Kant said that “parasites” were attacking the system and compared the youngsters to cockroaches “who don’t get any employment and don’t have any place in a profession.”
“There are youngsters like cockroaches who don’t get any employment or have any place in the profession. Some of them become media, some of them become social media, RTI activists and other activists, and they start attacking everyone,” Kant said.
Kant later said his comment was misquoted, saying it was targeted at some people who entered the legal profession and other fields using fraudulent degrees and did not target India’s youth, whom he called “the pillars of a developed India.”
CJP’s 5 points Manifesto:
(1) No post-retirement rewards for Judges:
No Chief Justice shall be granted a Rajya Sabha Seat as a Post-retirement reward.
(2) Protect every legit vote:
If any legit vote is deleted, whether in a CJP or opposition-ruled state, the CEC shall be arrested under UAPA.
(3) 50% reservation for Women:
Women shall receive 50% reservation not 33%, without increasing the strength of Parliament.
(4) Independent media, not Godi media:
All media houses owned by Ambani and Adani shall have their licenses cancelled to make way for truly independent media.
(5) 20 Years ban on political defection:
Any MLA or MP who defects from one party to another shall be banned for a period of 20 years.
Who is Abhijeet Dipke:
He is a political communication strategist specialized in narrative building, public messaging, and the impact of digital platforms on political opinion.
Abhijeet Dipke is a founder of CPJ who worked with Aam Aadmi Party between 2020 and 2023, where he was involved in social media operations and election campaign strategy.
The 30 years old has studied journalism in Pune and then moved to the United States for further study.
During 2020 Delhi Assembly election, he worked with AAP as a digital campaigner for youth outreach.
When asked during an interview with India Today why he left AAP, Dipke said: “I needed to move forward with my life. I took a year off, started preparing my applications, and, in 2024, decided it was time to focus on my personal life and financial stability.
He applied to some universities, got into Boston University, and I have been here since then.”
